Eight ways to make a living on wheels

A body shop and a tow truck have nothing in common except the customer standing there with a card. Each edition opens with the workflows that business actually uses.

Auto Body and PaintingEstimates with photos, the claim number on the job, supplements tracked, and the deductible collected by card or text link at pickup. Insurer payments post against the same job. Status texts ("in paint, ready Thursday") go out without a phone call. Rental and tow charges ride on the same ticket.
Auto Dealer/SalesLeads from the website and the marketplaces land in one pipeline and get a text in minutes from the AI. Deposits hold a vehicle by pay link; down payments by card, the balance by ACH or wire. A service reminder brings the buyer back for the first oil change. Not a DMS: it sits in front of one.
Automotive DetailingOnline booking by package and vehicle size, a deposit for ceramic coatings, and a monthly membership that bills the card on file for the regular wash. Rebooking texts at 30 days, dual pricing on every ticket, a review request on the way out. Mobile detailers take payment on the driveway by tap-to-phone.
Automotive Repair/MechanicDigital inspection with photos sent by text, the customer approves line by line, the shop starts work. The invoice is paid by text link before pickup, so the counter is not a collections desk. Mileage-based reminders rebook the oil change. Dual pricing shows a cash and a card price on every repair order.
Brake & Muffler ShopSame-day quotes by text with the brake-pad photo attached, approval in one tap, pay before pickup. Fleet accounts get monthly invoices by ACH. A 12-month reminder brings back the customer whose rear brakes you flagged last visit.
Roadside AssistanceThe call is answered and dispatched in under a minute. The customer pays by text link while the truck is on the way, and the receipt arrives before the driver does. Motor-club and dealer accounts get consolidated monthly invoices paid by ACH.
Tire ShopQuote by size and brand, book the install, pay by text link or at the counter with dual pricing. Rotation and seasonal-swap reminders go out by mileage and by month. Fleet and dealer accounts invoice monthly by ACH, with Level 2 data for corporate cards.
Towing ServiceDispatch board, driver app, and payment taken at the scene by tap-to-phone or text link. Impound and storage fees accrue daily on the vehicle record and are collected at release. Police-rotation, body-shop and motor-club accounts invoice monthly.

What every edition here shares

Four things an automotive business does every day, already wired.

Approvals by text, not phone tagThe estimate, inspection or quote goes out by text with photos. The customer approves on their phone. The record shows who approved what, and when.
Paid before pickupThe invoice with a pay link goes out when the car is ready. Most customers pay before they arrive, so the handoff is keys and a receipt. Tap-to-phone for the rest.
Reminders by mileage and by monthOil changes, rotations, brake checks and renewals go out on schedule and rebook themselves. The AI receptionist answers the reply and takes the appointment.
Fleet, dealer and insurer accountsHouse accounts with monthly invoices paid by ACH for a flat per-item fee instead of a percentage. Level 2/3 data passed automatically, so corporate cards clear at lower interchange.

The counter, the driveway, the roadside

Flat-rate pricing takes the same cut of a brake job as it does of a cup of coffee. Every business here holds its own merchant account with our sponsor-bank processing partner; we are the referring agent.

Compliant dual pricing: the estimate, the invoice and the terminal post a cash price and a card price up front. Where a surcharge is used instead, it is capped at the lesser of 3% or your actual cost of acceptance (2% in Colorado and Oklahoma), and debit cards are never surcharged, so most shops run dual pricing.* Or interchange-plus with one small, disclosed margin, and you save on card fees versus flat-rate pricing: send a statement and we show the math on your own ticket mix.

  • Countertop terminals, tap-to-phone and Bluetooth readers for the bay, the driveway and the roadside (hardware)
  • Text-to-pay invoices and approvals by text, from the app or the desk
  • Card on file for memberships, vehicle holds and deposits, with smart retries
  • ACH for a flat per-item fee instead of a percentage, plus Level 2/3 data, for fleet, dealer, motor-club and insurer accounts (ACH); returned payments pass the processor's return fee through at cost, with two automatic retries
  • No PCI program fee, no statement fee, no annual fee

Plans for automotive

Which plan fits

Shops with a service writer run Pro ($299/mo, or $249/mo billed annually): inspection approvals, mileage reminders, the AI receptionist, reviews and unlimited users. A single-bay shop or a one-truck tow operator starts on Basic ($99/mo, credited back on your processing statement while you process with Merch FinTech) with booking, invoicing, texting and the mobile app. Pro is credited back at higher processing volumes. See pricing.

Don't see your business? Transmission shops, glass, wraps, upholstery, fleet maintenance. We build new editions regularly. Tell us what you run and we'll configure it from the closest one. Need it built around how you run? Custom builds from $1,999.

FAQ

Automotive questions

Does this replace my shop management system?
For most independent shops, yes: inspections, approvals, invoices, reminders, texting and payments are all here. If you keep a parts-catalog or labor-guide tool, the edition sits in front of it and runs the customer and the money.
Can I show a cash price and a card price on a repair order?
Yes. Compliant dual pricing prints both prices on the estimate, the invoice and the terminal, and signage is provided. Debit can't be surcharged, so shops run dual pricing rather than a surcharge. Programs are subject to card-brand rules and state law and aren't available everywhere.
How do fleet and insurance accounts pay?
They get a house account with monthly or per-job invoices, paid by ACH for a flat per-item fee instead of a percentage, or by corporate card. Level 2/3 data is passed automatically, which lowers the interchange on those cards. Insurer payments on body-shop jobs post against the claim on the job record.
Can a tow or roadside driver take payment at the scene?
Yes. The driver sends a text-to-pay link from the app or taps the card on their phone. The receipt goes to the customer by text and the dispatch record shows the job as paid.

Approved by text, paid before pickup
