Gift cards

What a gift card does for the business that sells it

A gift card is a sale today, a visit later and a new customer you did not have to find.

Higher tickets at redemptionMost people spend past the card's value, and the difference is new revenue at the counter.
Cash up front, service laterDecember gift card sales fund January. Unredeemed balances stay with you, subject to state unclaimed-property rules; the program reports balances and ages so you can follow them.
New customers, referred by old onesThe person who redeems a gift card is often someone who has never been in. The platform books them, texts them and asks for the review.
Promotions without a coupon bookBonus value, loyalty credits and win-back offers loaded onto a card by text, all from the same program.
Scribe

Scribe: a campus card for schools, camps and shuls

Every institution runs a dozen small economies: the canteen, the bookstore, the Shabbaton, the raffle, the late pickup fee. Most of them run on cash envelopes, punch cards and a spreadsheet in the office. Scribe puts them on one balance.

  • Campus cards. A card or a tap on the phone for each student or member, loaded online by a parent or member.
  • Canteen and store. Spend at the counter with a reader or a kiosk. Balance and allowances set by the parent; every swipe visible to the office.
  • Tuition credits. Financial aid, sibling discounts and scholarship funds loaded as credit and drawn down against tuition plans.
  • Reporting. Balances by family, spend by program, unredeemed amounts by age, exportable for the bookkeeper.

Scribe runs on our 613OS edition for Jewish institutions and on the schools and camps editions.

FAQ

Questions about cards

How do I get cards?
Cards are issued through our partner bank from the same account as your payments. Tell us which program you need: expense cards and gift cards are set up from your dashboard, and Scribe is configured with your school, camp or shul office. Virtual cards are ready as soon as the account is open; physical cards ship.
What is the Scribe card program?
Scribe is a stored-value card for institutions: schools, camps, shuls and nonprofits. Parents and members load a balance online; the card is spent at your canteen, store, events or tuition desk; you see every swipe and every balance. It replaces cash envelopes and paper punch cards.
What happens to unredeemed gift card balances?
Unredeemed balances stay with you, subject to state unclaimed-property rules, which vary by state and by how the card is sold. The program reports balances and ages so you can follow your state's rules. We are not your lawyer or accountant, and we say so.
Can I set different limits for different employees?
Yes. Each card has its own amount limit, allowed categories, allowed merchants and active hours, changed from the dashboard and applied on the next swipe, with instant freeze or cancel.

Merch FinTech is a financial services and software company, not a bank. Banking and card products are provided through our partner bank under that bank's account agreement. Gift and stored-value programs follow card-network rules and state law.
